WINTHER, LASTOWKA TAKE TITLES AT 2012 RE/MAX WLDC 

MESQUITE, NEVADA (October 25, 2012) – Ryan Winther and Eric Lastowka today reached the pinnacle of power golf by winning the 2012 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship Powered By Dick’s Sporting Goods. 

Winther, from Sacramento,CA., took the Open Division title with a 343 yard drive to win over Tim Burke of Washington, DC in a head-to-head showdown at Mesquite Sports and Event Complex. 

Cool conditions and steady head wind of 15-20 mph proved to be a great test for all of the finalist. 

Winther earned $150,000 and bragging rights as the longest hitter on the planet. Tim Burke earned $70,000 for his efforts

Earlier, Eric Lastowka, who hails from Hanover, Mass., took the Senior Division title and its $50,000 first prize. Lastowka defeated hall of famer, Frank Miller of Laguna CA. 387-369.

QUARTERFINALISTS SET IN OPEN DIVISION; SENIOR SEMIFINALS LAUNCH THURSDAY’S FINALE

MESQUITE, NEVADA (October 24, 2012) – Eight Open Division competitors, including recent 2012 LDA Tour Championship winner Tim Burke, remain in the race for power golf’s top prize at the 2012 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship Powered By Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Advancing along with Burke to Thursday afternoon’s Open Division quarterfinals at Mesquite Sports and Event Complex are two-time RE/MAX world champion Jamie Sadlowski and 2011 LDA Tour leading money winner Landon Gentry.

Rounding out the Open Division quarterfinals are: Josh Crews, Ryan Winther, Justin Young, Ryan Cooper and Tom Peppard.

Each is seeking a $150,000 first prize, RE/MAX WLDC crystal trophy and bragging rights as the longest golfer on the planet.

Thursday’s championship card begins with the Senior Division semifinals. The first match, a battle of former RE/MAX world champions, pits 2012 LDA Hall of Fame inductee Frank Miller, the fourth seed, against top-seeded George Slupski.

Miller won the RE/MAX Senior Division title in 2007; Slupski followed suit in 2010.

In the second Senior Division semifinal, second-seeded Eric Houballah of France faces third-seeded Eric Lastowka. Each is seeking his first RE/MAX world title and looking to become the first Eric to capture the RE/MAX senior title since Eric Jones in 2003.

Live coverage from Mesquite will air on ESPN3.com beginning at 5pm Eastern, 4pm Central, 3pm Mountain and 2pm Pacific.

This talented international field is composed of past champions like Mike Dobbyn, Jamie Sadlowski and Joe Miller. LDA Tour winners like Tim Burke and Mick Yelovich. Hall of Fame members Brian Pavlet and Jason Zuback as well as a few newcomers such as Cameron Swanson and Graden Kirksey.   

With slight tail winds all week 400 yards is common place and often not enough to even advance. These player will have bring their best to advance to the TV rounds on Thursday.

RE/MAX CROWNS QUARTET OF LONG DRIVE WORLD CHAMPIONS

CARLBORG, BRINKER, CRUTCHFIELD, JONES
WIN AT POWER GOLF’S PREMIER EVENT

MESQUITE, NEVADA (October 18, 2012) – Swedish long drive star Sandra Carlborg earned her second straight RE/MAX world title with a record-setting 339-yard blast today at the 2012 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship Powered By Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Joining Carlborg on the podium at Mesquite Sports and Event Complex were: David Brinker in the Legends (60+) Division; Jack Crutchfield in the Grand Champions (55+) Division and Eric Jones in the Super Seniors (50+) Division.
Brinker, who resides in Creve Couer, Mo., posted a winning distance of 330 yards to secure his first world title.

Crutchfield, who hails from Brewton, Ala. smashed a drive of 354 yards to claim the RE/MAX trophy. It was his first world title, too. Jones, who lives in Orinda, Calif, drove 369 yards to claim his second RE/MAX world title. He won the Senior Division title in 2003.

Competition at the 2012 RE/MAX WLDC, the premier event in power golf, continues in Mesquite through Thursday, October 25, when  ESPN3 will broadcast the finals of the Open Division and Senior Division beginning at 2:00pm Pacific time. Carl Wolter of Lehighton, Pa. is defending champion in the Open Division; David Mobley of Huntersville, N.C. is defending champion in the Senior Division.
